In the world of board gaming, one of the most common critiques that games receive is the quality of their rulebook. They are often described as incoherent, disorganized or vague, and are accused of having ambiguous or even contradictory rules. A lot of these critiques are valid, or at least grounded in truth: most rulebooks leave quite a lot of room for improvement. Moreover, a bad rulebook experience negatively impacts the overall enjoyment of players. Indeed, figuring out the right way to rule different situations from a poorly structured rulebook can feel like searching for a needle in a haystack which might not even be there, and who wants to do that?
Our founder (and board game enthusiast), Alex De Klerck, was finishing up his PhD in logic when he decided to combat this persistent problem in the board gaming industry. Soon enough, Mischievous Swiftlet was born! Now, we help board game publishers and independent designers alike with designing high-quality board game rulebooks. Have any questions?
